Birch & Pine of the New Forest Flute in G 432Hz

This is a rather special branch gifted to me by the birches of the New Forest. A special grove of white bark glowing beings sung to me in the distance one walk many moons ago. Beckoned to dance among them and climb to the very top of a particular birch. This branch came from the very swaying top of this tree, we processed every leaf from her sweet branch and the trophy was this pristine white flute material.

This flute is tuned to the Key of G (to 432Hz A) singing fluently with a crisp and clear timbre with balanced back pressure and a stable fundamental note. You can really lean into the stability of the sound with this flute, pushing the breath harder creates a more textured sound without swaying out of tune or faltering.

The block is carved from reclaimed ancient Pine wood, marrying the 2 parental archetypes who gave birth to the majestic forests of this land. The foot of the block is Pine oriented with the grain facing down. This acts like porous straws which absorb the moisture when you play via capillary action. This means that the flute will play for longer periods of time before 'wetting out' from moisture blocking the windway. The block is tied on with suede leather & adorned with Hazel beads.

Coated with a layer of natural oil based varnish to waterproof and protect the wood whilst retaining the natural feel of the branch. The inside of the S.A.C. (Slow Air Chamber) is charred and oiled to further protect this instrument from mould and moisture build up over the years.

Carved into the bark is the rune Ansuz, the Ogham for Birch (Beith) then the rune Othala. An intuited combination of symbols I felt harmonised with this flute in particular. Happy to share more info on these if you're interested!
